8/10 2 Corinthians 6:14

14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

This verse is most often applied to those who are considering marriage (Deuteronomy 7:3). Without the common foundation of Christ, the marriage will be on a very unstable footing, for the couple may never be truly united in heart.

This verse was not written specifically about marriage. It applies to every area of life. Business partnerships can end in disaster. If one party seeks integrity and to honor God while the other is out for personal gain at any cost, conflict will inevitably arise. The partnership usually ends in the Christian walking away at a financial loss. I've personally experienced this and seen it happen to others as well.

There are surely many other areas in life in which this warning applies. Paul is certainly not telling us to isolate ourselves and refuse to associate with unbelievers, or how would we proclaim the gospel? Most employers will not be believers, but working for the glory of God in their service is not partnership. Paul is telling us not to join with them in an officially binding venture. When we join with them in marriage or business or in any other official way, complete unity of purpose is impossible. Points of contention are bound to arise. Save yourself the pain and difficulty by obeying God and refraining from such partnerships.
