12/29 Revelation 5:11-12
11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"
When Jesus took the scroll from the Father, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders around the throne fell down before Him and sang a new song. The words of that song are the text in the previous devotion. Isaiah the prophet saw these creatures and told us their voices shook the foundations of the thresholds of the heavenly temple (Isaiah 6:4).
The song prompts tens of thousands of angels to join them in declaring in a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" Those angels have a much clearer picture of what was accomplished by the death and resurrection of Jesus. They can see how gracious He is to redeem wretches like us. They see His power to bring beauty from ashes. They see that power in His holy hands only brings about the perfect balance of grace and justice. That is why they declare He is forever the worthy One.
The list of things He is worthy to receive sounds as if they are trying to express that every good thing should be His. And that will come to pass, for His is the name above every name. His is the name to which every knee, including yours and mine, should rightly bow (Philippians 2:9-11).
Consider: Contemplate the worthiness of Jesus to eternally reign over all, including your own life.
