6/30 Romans 11:33

³³ Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

Paul could see that the Jews in large part had rejected their Messiah so that the Gentiles would hear the message. This was God's sovereign plan for the world to hear the message of salvation. Eventually the Jews will acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah (Romans 11:25-27). This revelation caused Paul to burst out in words of praise. Our verse today is the beginning of those words. He begins by praising the wisdom and knowledge of God. God knows all things. He can see every possible scenario and knows the end from the beginning.

God's judgments are unsearchable. We mortals complain about the judgments of God here on the earth as if we know something God didn't. God knows every single factor out of the quadrillions involved in each situation. We could never in one lifetime fathom a tiny fraction of what God takes into account. He is always just and righteous, and all that He does is good.

God's ways are inscrutable. That is to say that the outworking of God's plans are incomprehensible to us. Paul was admitting that he was seeing only a miniscule portion of what God was doing. That tiny revelation put Him in awe. Every once in a while we catch a glimpse of a little bit of the working of God in our lives, those coincidences that are way outside the realm of chance, and we wonder at the mysterious ways of God. When that happens we should turn to Romans 11:33-36 and lift up Paul's inspired words of praise to our amazing God.
