3/30 John 1:38-39

³⁸ Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, "What are you seeking?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), where are you staying?"³⁹ He said to them, "Come and you will see." So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

John the Baptist pointed out Jesus and called Him the Lamb of God. Two of John's disciples followed Jesus and asked where He was staying. The place where John was baptizing was near Kochaba, a town of the descendants of David. Perhaps Jesus was staying there with relatives. Jesus' invitation was more about what these two disciples were seeking than about the actual place He was lodging for the night. He had just returned from forty days of fasting and the temptation in the wilderness. His ministry was just beginning. The years of quiet preparation in communion with the Father had begun to manifest themselves in words and actions.

We don't know exactly what the two disciples of John saw, but whatever they witnessed convinced them that Jesus was the Messiah. They followed Him back to Galilee and began to tell others they had found the Messiah. We may have a bit of insight into what it was they had witnessed when Jesus called Nathanael. A word of knowledge from Jesus about Nathanael's time alone in prayer earlier that day convinced him that Jesus was indeed the Messiah (John 1:46-49).

If someone notices something about your life, could you say, "Come and you will see"? Has there been enough quiet communion with your heavenly Father that your life evidences a visible difference? If someone did come to stay with you, what would he or she witness? Is the life of Jesus manifest in your mortal body? (2 Corinthians 4:10)

Prayer: Lord, help me to take the time with You so that I might be transformed. Conform me to Your image. Be my very life by the power of Your Spirit.
